Summer Activities & Amenities

SWIMMING

Swimming during the warm Vermont summers is a must! While you’re staying at Ascutney Mountain Resort, there are many ways to cool down and relax, from our own Olympic size Outdoor and Indoor pools, to swimming holes and lakes.

Fitness Center Indoor & Outdoor Pools

No matter what the weather is like outside, you can always enjoy swimming right here at Ascutney!  We have both an indoor and outdoor pool, so even if it’s raining you and your family can enjoy swimming.  Resort guests enjoy complimentary use of all that our Sports & Fitness Center has to offer.  A short walk from your room and a great place for families to enjoy the day.

Twenty-Foot Hole - Reading, VT

Though not significant in any of the deepest-widest-tallest type catagories, the Twenty-Foot Hole is admired locally, regionally, and statewide for its subtle beauty.  In three places, the bedrock constricts the stream into lovely cataracts, eacha treasure in itself.  Below each drop a mini-gorge broadens out onto expanded swiming and wading areas ringed with rocks and woodland dominated by hemlocks and tall straight pines.  The depth of each pool where the clarity of the water is strikingly Caribbean, led to the name “Twenty-Foot Hole”.

North Hartland Lake - Hartland/Hartford, VT

With more than 1700 acres of land ranging from forests and fields to wetlands and a reservoir, North Hartland Lake has recreation opportunities for everyone! In summer months, visitors can swim, sunbathe, and picnic in shady woods or in one of our shelters. Anglers can try their luck in our annually stocked lake. A boat launch is available for sailors, and this is a popular location for canoeists to launch from and explore the beauties of nearby Quechee Gorge. For those who want to explore the beauties of nature on dry land, we provide a nature trail, plus ranger conducted programs. Winter sports such as snowmobiling, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing are also popular activities at North Hartland Lake.

The Floating Bridge - Brookfield, VT

As the story goes, in 1820 the townspeople of Brookfield, who had enjoyed the efficient travel across sunset lake provided by the ice in the winter, created a bridge of logs to use in the summer. The logs were replaced each year until 1884 when a bridge was devised using tarred barrels that floated on the water. In 1978 the wooden barrels were replaced with plastic containers filled with styrofoam.
